Job Interview week. Today -preparations START 8 a.m.

It seems like we think the most important things in life we cannot learn about- like being a parent.......
This may be true but at leat we can try!!!!

A very important thing is getting a job and to reach that goal we often have to get through the process of applying for the job and being called to an interview.

That is what we are going to practice this week.

Here are the instructions:
As a document
or as text

English 7

Job Interviews
The job interview task gives you the opportunity to speak English in a more formal setting. Start off by getting into a group of three to four students (3-4) To prepare for it you will need to do the following:

1.    Write your CV-a good resource which is simple is:

http://www.soon.org.uk/cvpage.htm

2.    Surf  onto www.job-interview.net
3.    Click on Mock Job Interviews
4.    Choose a job and prepare your interview (see the general instructions on the above website.
5.    Write a brief covering letter explaining that you have seen the advertisement for the post of…(your chosen area) and you would like to be considered for the job.
6.    Talk to the other people in your group and give them a copy of your interview questions.
7.    Check through the general questions you may be asked at a job interview.
8.    Think about the way you will be dressed ( we will not dress up for this interview)
9.    Think about your body language, your confidence and your eye contact.
10.                  Practise!
11.                  You are now ready to do your interview.

Results of the interview
  1. The student interviewers and myself will decide if you should be called back for a second interview or get the job or be thanked for your interest in the post. This is a subjective judgement and not to be taken too seriously!
ON Friday we will do the actual interviews in your small groups.

You will have about 20-25 minutes per interview.
I will try to get around to as many as possible.
The interview will NOT be graded.
However, the CV/covering letter will be given a pass/non-pass grade

Listening exercises

Today we will be spending the focus on listening..

This was one of the key areas many of you highlighted when planning in groups and the results of the CAE practice test revealed that it is an area where many of you need to consolidate.

Here are some links to help you.

TED Talk day.

Start off by listening to a TED talk on your own.

Present it for your neighbour.

Who was the speaker?

What was the subject?

What impression did the talk make?

What did you learn from it?

Then decide on a TED Talk you will watch together..

Discuss the content and its  meaning for you.

If you were going to do a TED Talk what subject would it be about?

Good luck!

2. 10 questions

The deadline is 10 a.m.

After you have completed the assignments return your book to Björn..

Make sure you have also borrowed "Letters from the Inside" and "Exodus" for those who want to read it.

On Monday we will be doing a TED-Talk.

Shakespeare- Rounding off

I was pleased to see so many attended the film screening on Friday.

Those who missed it have to fix seeing the film so that they can do one of the two final assignments- to compare the film and the play.

The other assignment was to answer 10 of the 25 questions which are here again.

We can look at them briefly. They are not in a chronological order.

Today I want you to get into small groups (3-4) students and discuss what makes Shakespeare such a great writer.

Put down any ideas you may have.

Afterwards I will give you some links and some of my own views.

You will have the whole of Friday's lesson to complete the assignments.. so you don't have to attend the class.

However the deadline for recieving you work will be 10 a.m. on Friday 7th February.

You have been warned!
Here is a document from classiclit.about.com
which highlights some of the major reasons for the greatness of Shakespeare... Shakespeare/greatness
Good luck!
